2008 “600 Non Wing” General Rules

 

 All drivers, owners, and crew persons are responsible to follow all the Safety rules, and track rules of Delta Speedway.  Any person violating those rules will be subject to suspension, and expulsion from the facilities.  This is at the sole discretion of Delta Speedway and its appointed officials.

 

Disclaimer: All rules may be changed/modified/adjusted as needed by the Delta Speedway Racing Committee.  Rules are designed and enforced to keep competition equal and safe.

 

 

Age: Drivers ages 14 and up may compete in the "600 NW" Class.  (Subject to Referee’s Discretion)

 

Roll Cage: Roll cages shall be at least 1" .062 wall thickness, or 1 1/18 "

.065 wall thickness, or 1 1/14" .065 wall thickness. Roll cage shall be made of chromoly steel

or equivalent material. The front section of the cage shall be no further back than the steering

wheel. Roll cages shall have sufficient fore and aft bracing and strength to support the weight of the car and driver in case of an upset. Cage shall have gussets at the intersecting bars to the uprights. Bends must have at least 3" radius. No square or pointed corners allowed.  Roll cage must be a min.of 3" and a max.of 6" above the drivers helmet. It is mandatory to install a cross bar behind the seat to support the shoulder harness.

 

Bumpers And Nerfs: Cars must have a bumper extending beyond the front and rear tires.  Nothing may extend beyond a tangent line from the outside edge of the tires to the bumpers. Nothing may extend beyond the outside edge of the tires or wheels, which ever is the widest.  No sharp corners or design as to hook or damage. All cars must be equipped with nerf bars. Nerf bars must extend to inside edge of tires, but not beyond the outside of the tire.   All cars must be equipped with a rear bumper.  Nothing on the vehicle may protrude beyond the rear bumper of the car.  All bumpers and nerf bars must be bolted to the chassis, no pop rivets are allowed.  Any vehicle losing a nerf bar or bumper may be black flagged at the referee’s discretion, if the referee feels the vehicle is unsafe to continue racing.

 

Safety: Seat belts must be securely attached to the car and used at all times.  Metal to metal latches only, 5-point seat belts, shoulder harness, and sub strap are required. Belt dates must not be over 3 years old. (Example: Oct.03 may be used in 2004,2005,and 2006) Arm restraints are mandatory and must be adequately adjusted to keep the drivers hands below the top of the roll cage. Helmets must be full head coverage competition type and one of the three latest

SNELL Auto approvals.  No MC rated helmets allowed.  All drivers will wear a name brand flame-retardant full one-piece Nomex uniform, rated 3-2A/5 or better. Single layer, and Karting suits are not allowed.  Neck braces are mandatory; cage nets, or headrest are required.  SFI gloves are mandatory for safety.  Delta Speedway suggest each driver wears Nomex underwear, and hood sock.  Also each car should be equipped with a halon type fire extinguisher system.

 

Electrics and Electronics:  On/off switches must be mounted on dash, top of the cowl or on steering wheel. On/Off switch must be connected and functional. No radio communication is allowed with the car or the driver.  All 600 NW cars will have the electrical charging system installed, it does not need to be functional.

 

Battery:  All wet cell batteries must be securely mounted in the cockpit, and must be covered and vented outside the cockpit area.

 

Fuel: 600 NW Cars may run methanol or gasoline.  No fuel additives of any kind may be added, this includes top end lubrications.

  

Weight: 600 NW Class car, minimum car and driver weight 725 lbs.  Drivers are encouraged to weigh before the racing activities begin.  All cars must meet weight requirement using scales provided by Delta Speedway.  Cars must go directly to scales as directed by racing officials.  Any driver that fails to go directly to the scales will be automatically disqualified.

 

Suspension: Tread. Max.52 inches. Min.32 inches, center to center of tires.  Wheelbase. Max. 70 inches, Min. 50 inches, center of front axle to center of rear axle.

 

Steering: A solid or tubular tie rod must connect front wheels. Rear wheel drive only. All steering bolts and suspension bolts, (except wheel nuts), must be secured by some type of locking device. 

 

Shocks: All shock absorbers are legal.  Shocks must be bolted to chassis, front axle and rear suspension.

 

Brakes: Brakes will be of sufficient strength so as to slide the wheels while the car is in motion at any given time.  All brakes will be hydraulic, not mechanical in nature.  600 NW cars are permitted to have front brakes. 

 

Right Rear Tire:  All 600 NW cars must use the American Racer NMMA hard tire, or a Hoosier D30, or harder.  Grooving and siping will be allowed. No softening of the tire is allowed.  Tires will be checked for alterations.  All Right Rear Tires must durometer at least 50 after tire cool down.

 

Tires & Wheels: Any wheel size & tire combination may be used, except, the left rear tire must be a minimum of 56 inches in circumference.  Tires may not exceed 22 1/2 " in height.  Wheels must be held on with 4 or more standard lug nuts or knock-off hubs.  All cars using front wheel centers must have an aerospace nut or other safety nut securely in place.

 

Bodies: All cars must have complete bodies.  Tail sections must be in place for time trials and all races. There must be a metal firewall between driver and engine, made of 24-gauge steel or .0625" aluminum. Body of cars must be made of aluminum, metal, fiberglass, or high impact plastic. No part of the body, or any other material is allowed to protrude, more than 2 inches,  beyond the rear down rail of the chassis.  All cars must be painted an attractive color or colors. No rear view mirrors. The only part of the car allowed to be dismantled for driver to enter or exit is a quick release steering wheel hub. Mudguards must be made aluminum or fiberglass, and can be no higher than 11" from the top of cage, and 24 inches from the front cowl.  All mechanically operated devices must be mounted below the driver’s shoulders for safety.

 

Transmission: Any type transmission is legal. Any car equipped with a shifting mechanism must have this device mounted in the driver’s compartment.  Chain guards will be made

of .090 " thick aluminum or equivalent and will run on top of chain from the front of the front sprocket to the center of the rear axle. Driver must not be able to touch the chain or sprockets while sitting in the cockpit.  All cars must be chain driven.  All gears must be in transmission.

 

Wings: 600 NW Cars will run NON WING.  However, Delta Speedway will strictly enforce any additional paneling installed on cars in order to create an air foil effect.  No material will be allowed to extend below the upper shock mount toward the axel and bottom frame rail.  Mud guards may not extend to the upper top frame rail (above the drivers head). (see body rules).  All Wing mounting hardware must be removed from car prior to start of any race.  No body part may extend beyond the rear down rail.  No air foil devices or additional panels will be allowed on hood, tail, and right side nerf bar.  We will permit aluminum panels on left side to protect motor.

 

Numbers: All cars must have legible numbers painted in contrasting colors on both sides of car

and the nose. Min. height is 8" on nose & nose wing, 10" on each side of tail, and 12" on the wing. Numbers must be separated from advertising so they will be readable.  If a number is unreadable by the scorekeeper the driver must alter the number so it is readable.  If the number is not altered, the car will not be scored. There will be no duplicate numbers in a class. Drivers from the previous year can maintain their number. If duplicate numbers already exist in a class, priority will be based on time of registration. 

 

License: All drivers, when signing in for any Delta Speedway Racing event, must show their current membership card.  Only Delta Speedway Racing members earn points, and are eligible for the yearlong awards. If a card is not presented at the time of sign-in, the driver or pit member will pay the non-member fee.

Ballast: Any material used for ballast must be firmly attached as a part of the car's structure. No liquid or loose ballast such as water, fuel, oil, sand bags, rocks, log chains etc. will be allowed.

 

Engine Rules:  All 600 NW cars must run a 4 stroke, 4-cylinder engine.  All engines must run the stock stroke and stock bore as manufactured.  The cars must be self-starting, and the flywheel attached to the motor.  After market air boxes, and headers are allowed.  All cars must have a muffler mounted on the header.  The Kawasaki 636 is NOT legal to run in the 600 NW Class.  Motors may run a windage tray & or modified oil pan.

 

Driver Compartment Adjustments: No cockpit adjusters allowed.  No weight jackers allowed.  Pan Hard adjuster is allowed, if driver cannot reach adjuster while sitting in vehicle.  No shock adjusters in cockpit allowed. 

 

Rookie Rule:  Any driver signing in, who has not been previously been given approval to run as a “non-rookie”, may be asked to run as a rookie.  If a driver is running as a rookie, that driver will display, from the rear of the car, a white rookie flag.  The driver must start at the rear of each race they compete in, (except the trophy dash).  After the referee feels the driver has demonstrated the proper skills, the rookie flag may be removed.  This rule is to insure the safety of all participants and spectators at Delta Speedway.
